NGO's film competition for the Earth

Three non-governmental organizations launched the Green - Go short film contest and festival in September. The collaboration aims to call for the attention of European active and creative young people to express their own ideas on the most pressing environmental problems.

"We would like to be the bridge between our work and the decision makers' professional opinions and the younger generations. The short films will take part in our work and in our campaigns in the form of screenings at schools and at other events or during street campaigns in Brussel.

We have many different tools - we organize street demonstrations, we enforce lobbying activities on nature - and environmental concerns. Messages from people are important for the decision-makers as decisions influence success or failure of our activity that people can feel on their own skins.

We are looking for a form, a communication channel, which is popular and easy to understand. There are three vital issues - the overuse of resources, since we use Planet Earth 2.5 times more than we should in terms of natural resources; the importance of forests, 2011 is the International Year of Forests; agro-biodiversity and food security, it is a huge challenge to feed 9 billion people by 2050 without destroying the Earth.

Visual communication is a uniform language, so it is an accessible and comprehensible call for all Europeans, and they speak to all of us. Within the frame of this contest and festival, we found a common ground where we meet directly with people, their needs and thoughts. Their ideas can also be transmitted to decision makers at our events at international level.

We want them to express themselves and thereby strengthen the advocacy of environment. This contest can help young people to better express themselves and help them see what they want and need to change.

It is a tool in their hands, and we encourage them to live with it. Now we provide the possibility to show what our World needs!"
