Nature Conservation, wildlife and endangered species workshop in Latvia

On April 3 2012, 18 youngsters from the Ergli Secondary School took part in the next workshop of our ‘Together for a Green Europe' campaign. In the workshop we were working on the topics related with endangered animals and plants. Overall, we found out how many different species of plants and animals are registered in Latvia, and how many out of them are included in the Red Data Book.WSH-3_copy

We explored the topic related with the forests in Latvia to understand what the variety of forestation in Latvia is, and what percentage of the territory of Latvia is covered by forests. We got the information about the most common species of the trees in Latvia and where the wood is used for.

Conclusions by participants:
Ketija Patkovska (14 years old): I found out many new things about protected species that are included in the Latvian Red Data book. I understood how unsustainable sometimes we are using our "green gold" - forests.

Kaspars Nikolajevs (14 years old): I have already known many things about those topics however it was really interesting to get to know what other participants are sharing about it. I really like this project and I think that we could use more some video materials.
